Emmerdale's Rhona Goskirk discovers link to Pierce Harris' ex-wife in disturbing twist?

Rhona (played by Zoe Henry) is about to take centre stage in a new storyline on Emmerdale as she is contacted by Pierce (Jonathan Wrather) from prison as he explains he is dying and he wants to make contact with his estranged son, Marcus Dean (Darcy Grey). The beloved villager has been to hell and back with the ITV soap villain and the last thing she would want to do is to spend any more time thinking about him than she has to. However, it has been revealed the weeknight serial drama will soon be introducing her mother, Mary Goskirk, played by the star of the stage and screen Louise Jameson, so the vet will have a lot on her hands. In a rather shocking twist, could she discover the newcomer is actually Pierce’s ex-wife?

Reports from The Mirror suggest the new character is going to ruffle some feathers in the village as she becomes a regular presence after reconnecting with her daughter.

It will be clear there is a lot for Rhona and Mary to work through as they look to the future but to do so, they might have to go back into the past.

Delving back some years ago, it could be explained the newcomer and Pierce were married for a short time and they conceived Marcus together.

When the child was very young, the villain would have walked out on his ex-wife and a divorce would have followed as he went on to meet Tess Merton (Nicola Stephenson).

However, he wouldn’t have realised after her death he would have met the daughter of his first wife, Rhona, who would ultimately be his downfall.

Mary’s connection to Pierce might not be evident at first but when she bumps into Marcus in the village whilst out with Rhona, everything could come out in the open.

As the heartthrob refers to the newcomer as his mother, Rhona would be completely confused as she would think he is playing games.

But from the look on Mary’s face, it could be clear she is mother to both of them and she is in fact Pierce’s ex-wife.

The vet would be overcome with emotion, thinking she would have ties to the villain for the rest of her life after believing she had finally got rid of him after looking for his son.

Would she be able to forgive her mother for keeping the secret from her, or will this be the last straw for their relationship?

Producer Laura Shaw has also opened up on Mary’s arrival, explaining: “It’s great to have such a high calibre and talented actor [such as Louise] join our already strong team and she will be a fabulous asset to the show.

“Intelligent, witty and complex, Mary promises to be a force to be reckoned with in the village and for Rhona, there won’t ever be a dull moment whilst her domineering mother is around.”

An unnamed source also told the publication there are going to be some twists and turns to the story as strings of Rhona’s past come together.

The insider said: “No nonsense Mary has a strained relationship with her daughter who has always felt she was never good enough for her mother.

“Though Mary will prove a hit with everyone she meets in the village, will she be able to repair her broken relationship with Rhona?”

It has not been revealed when Mary will turn up in the village but with the casting announced, it won’t be too long before the drama is unfolding.

If she is connected to Pierce in some way, the mother and daughter will have to sit down and talk about their experience of being married to him.

Rhona could discover her mother was put through a very similar ordeal to herself and Pierce was also abusive towards her.

The vet could feel some sense of anger towards her mother as if she had known about Pierce before, maybe she wouldn’t have suffered at his hands.

But with his death imminent, they could both bury the hatchet and promise to leave him in the past where he belongs.

Speaking with Express.co.uk and other media earlier this year, executive producer Jane Hudson teased Mary’s arrival as someone from Rhona’s past who would rear their head.

The soap boss said: “There will also be someone else new in Rhona’s life appearing but I’m not telling you that one!

“Rhona’s going to be having two new characters appearing in her life,” she explained, with one of them being Marcus.

But could this also have been a hint they are brother and sister and Rhona’s life is going to be changed forever by the revelation?

Emmerdale currently airs weekdays at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode airing on Thursdays at 8pm.
