Fernando Alonso set to surpass Michael Schumacher record at Azerbaijan Grand Prix

The honour belongs to Louis Chiron, with the Monegasque driver having competed in his home race in 1955 at 55 years, and 292 days old. In terms of overall wins, Alonso lies sixth on 32, some way short of Hamilton’s marker of 103.

He has however, established himself as an F1 legend since his maiden race in Australia more than two decades ago. Driving for Minardi, the then 19-year-old finished 12th at Melbourne Park, and would fail to secure a single point in his debut campaign.
