‘Leave the unicorns alone!’ Lord Adonis mocked over plot for UK to rejoin EU

The Remoaner said the case to rejoin the Brussels bloc was “simple and compelling” as he outlined his plot to stop Brexit. He said the UK would be required to rejoin the customs union and single market before overturning the 2016 vote.

Labour’s Lord Adonis tweeted: “There is a strong case for ultimately rejoining the EU – step by step, after first rejoining the customs union and single market

“The case is simple and compelling – namely, the entire prosperity & trade of the country.”

But critics hit back and reminded him 17.4 million people in the UK had voted to unshackle from the bloc, which was actually “simple and compelling”.

One posted: “You are forgetting one tiny, teensy little detail. The people voted to leave.

“I know that listening to the people is not a natural characteristic for some politicians, but you can’t ignore or deny that genuine, simple and compelling truth.”

Another said: “I think you misunderstood the British people.”

One added: “We will only rejoin after we have addressed and fixed the regional inequalities and disenfranchisement that makes us so anti-EU.

“I would focus on that – and leave the unicorns alone for a bit.”

Will M added: “You are consistently wrong, but I do admire your persistence and consistency in your chosen ideology/religion.”

His rallying cry to rejoin the EU comes in stark contrast to Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer who said the Brexit vote should now be accepted and he would not seek to overturn it if he became Prime Minister.

Sir Keir told BBC Radio Newcastle: “We have exited the EU and we are not going back – let me be very clear in the north east about that. There is no case for rejoining.

“What I want to see now is not just Brexit done in the sense that we’re technically out of the EU, I want to make it work. I want to make sure we take advantage of the opportunities and we have a clear plan for Brexit.”
