“That’s great, that’s exactly how it should be.”
The 25-year-old also said the addition of new formats – including sprint qualifying which was trialled in 2021 – has also been beneficial for the sport.
He believes it is another opportunity for drivers and teams to make up places and gain points.
“It gave us a chance to fight, even though we weren’t actually fast enough for the top 10,” he added.
The 23-race 2022 campaign begins on 18-20 March, with winter testing for the all-new generation of cars underway from 23 February.
