Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp sends Luis Diaz warning as he hints at plans for star

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has warned his new winger Luis Diaz that he will need to bide his time before he is given a regular starting place in the team. The Reds landed the Colombia international from Porto at the weekend after shelling out an initial £37.5million.

Diaz has been in international duty over the last week as Colombia were defeated 1-0 by Peru last Friday, before going down to Argentina by the same scoreline on Wednesday.

The player was then reportedly due to touch down in England on Thursday to link-up with his new club ahead of their FA Cup encounter with Cardiff City on Sunday.

That match will come too early for Diaz and he isn’t expected to be involved in it.

And Klopp has admitted it will take time for the ace to settle in and get a run of games under his belt.

“If he was immediately at his best then it would be really strange,” the German told reporters on Friday.

Diaz played against the Reds twice as Liverpool convincingly dispatched Porto on both occasions in the group stages of the competition.

“I could not be happier that we’ve been able to get this deal done and bring Luis to Liverpool,” Klopp said after the signing of Diaz was announced.

“He is an outstanding player and someone we’ve been tracking for a very long time.

“We believe he has everything needed to fit into our way and adapt to the Premier League, both physically and mentally.

“He is a player who is hungry for success and knows you have to fight to get what you want. He is a fighter, no doubt. He’s a skilful team player who has always the goal in mind.”
