The first part of Ozark’s fourth and final season had twists aplenty as Marty (played by Jason Bateman) and Wendy Byrde (Laura Linney) tried to navigate murderous cartel boss Omar Navarro (Felix Solis) out of a world of crime and into the hands of the FBI. Of course, this didn’t come without its complications with his ambitious nephew Javi (Alfonso Herrera) breathing down their necks and rival drug queenpin Darlene Snell (Lisa Emery) trying to relaunch her own heroin empire on the cartel’s territory. But while the Netflix drama delivered on its usual blend of nail-biting storylines and bloodshed, the deaths of Wyatt (Charlie Tahan) and Darlene have stunned the fandom
To recap, Darlene and Wyatt’s demises finally came at the hands of Javi as he grew tired of waiting for Marty and Wendy to put a stop to her business.
Throughout season four, part one, Javi had pressurised his uncle and his business partners to take action but unbeknownst to him, they had bigger fish to fry.
Wendy was striking up illegal opium deals with pharmaceutical giants to try and buy her way into politics while Marty was trying to evade pesky private investigator Mel (Adam Rothenberg) and create a bond between Omar and FBI agent Maya Miller (Jessica Frances Dukes).
On top of that, Jonah Byrde’s (Skylar Gaertner) resentment for his mother had driven a wedge through the family, a new sheriff started snooping around the Ozarks, and Ruth Langmore (Julia Garner) was helping Darlene’s business thrive.

In the midseason finale, everything met an explosive climax as the FBI ended up cutting a deal with Javi, Wyatt and Darlene tied the knot and Marty and Wendy finally thought they had their way out of the business.
But in its final moments, everyone’s world was flipped upside down when Javi – now seemingly protected through his deal with the FBI – finally tracked down Darlene.
As the newlyweds arrived home, they were confronted with a gun-wielding Javi who wasn’t going to let the Snell matriarch talk her way out.
“So, how can we help you today?” a panicked Darlene asked the menacing Javi who calmly replied: “We told you from the beginning to stop selling heroin.
After initially blaming Frank Cosgrove Jr (Joseph Sikora), Ruth is incensed to discover Javi pulled the trigger after Jonah gave up his name – despite his parents warning Ruth not to act on her rage.
Heading into part two of season four, Ruth is filled with fury and Javi looks set in her sights, but will she go through with it and sabotage the FBI-Byrde-Cartel deal?
Whatever happens in the final part of the final season, it’s safe to say fans are just as distraught as Ruth was to see Wyatt killed off in such brutal circumstances.
