POLL: Have you turned your heating on yet?

According to a recent survey, 23 percent of UK adults do not plan to use their heating this winter, rising to 27 percent of parents with children under 18.

Some 69 percent said they will use their heating less than usual, while 11 percent have said they could take out a loan to cover costs.

The Liberal Democrats commissioned the Savanta ComRes polling in August and warned that winter will be tough for many households without targeted support.

Christine Jardine MP said: “Families and pensioners across the country are making heartbreaking decisions because the Government has failed to save them. It is a national scandal that parents are having to choose between heating their homes and feeding their children. It shouldn’t be like this.”

“There are ball bearings in pumps and other hydraulic components that can seize up if not used regularly.”

He advised turning on the radiators from October 1, to help warm up the system, and said that 30 minutes at 16C each week is enough.
