Putin vows new 'Satan' missile will provide 'food for thought' after successful launch


The Russian Defence Ministry has announced it successfully tested a new intercontinental ballistic missile . Dubbed the RS-28 Sarmat, it it often nicknamed “The Satan”. 
It was one of the six new Russian strategic weapons unveiled by Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2018.

The Ministry of Defence said: “The launch tasks have been completed in full. The design characteristics have been confirmed at all stages of its flight.

“The training warheads have arrived in a given area at the Kura training ground on the Kamchatka Peninsula.”

It was the first launch of a series of tests.

After being put through its paces, the weapon is expected to go into service with the Strategic Missile Forces.

“Sarmat” is a strategic missile system with a heavy-class liquid-propellant ICBM, the weight of one such missile exceeds 200 tonnes.
