Prince William has “doubled down” on his commitment to a cause that was close to his late grandmother’s heart – the environment. The Prince of Wales had been expected to attend the inaugural Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit but had to cancel due to the unexpected death of Elizabeth II. In a video address to the summit, he said: “During this time of grief, I take great comfort in your continued enthusiasm, optimism, and commitment to the Earthshot Prize and what we are trying to achieve. Protecting the environment was a cause close to my grandmother’s heart, and I know she would have been delighted to hear about this event and the support you are all giving our Earthshot Finalists—the next generation of environmental pioneers.”
Commenting on Prince William’s steadfast commitment to the environment, Earthshot CEO Hannah Jones told Town and Country: “His role continues to be what it has always been, which is as an advocate for the environment for generations ahead.
“The royal family thinks multiple generations ahead, which in a world of short-termism is a refreshing and incredibly important space to occupy. I think, if anything, his commitment doubles down.”
